Dear Folks at the Older Women’s Network,
We are conducting a research project entitled “The Gendered Lens: A Pilot Project on Women’s Experiences of Video Surveillance and Urban Security in Toronto.” This important initiative will develop a nuanced picture of the relationship between video surveillance and women’s sense of urban security.
We will ask diverse women in Toronto about the ways in which video surveillance affects their lives. Eligible women will participate in:
- Up to three sessions, of 45-90 minutes each, over the next six months
- At Ryerson University or at a community organization
- You will be reimbursed for your time
This project has been approved by the Ryerson University Research Ethics Board. The Principal Investigator is Dr. Emily van der Meulen, from the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Ryerson University, and the Co-Investigator is Dr. Amanda Glasbeek, from the Department of Social Science at York University.
Please inform OWN members about this project. We hope that some will agree to participate. For more information, here is a one-page summary of our project. Please do not hesitate to contact me at genderedlens@gmail.com or 647-721-1023.
