You can perhaps help the helpers!

A while ago we posted a notice here about a graduate student at U of T who wanted to interview  seniors who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender  about their experience with home and community care.  That study is still ongoing; please contact Jillian Watkins at 416-963-8033 or jillian.watkins@utoronto.ca

Now we have received another request for a similar study focusing on older lesbian and bisexual women’s experiences of accessing and receiving home care services in the GTA.  Contact Alisa Grigorovich, alisag@yorku.ca or 416-629-1035.  Both studies want those 60 years or older.

A third opportunity is for volunteers who speak Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin) and would like to spend a little time socializing with Chinese residents at Fudger House, a City long-term care facility at 439 Sherbourne (south of Wellesley).  It’s a rather pleasant place, but these residents have little English and thus are rather isolated within the home.  Perhaps you know someone with a little time for activities/friendly visiting/games, maybe yourself!  Call Stephanie McCullam, 416-367-0150 or smccull@toronto.ca
