Membership

The work of the Network is made possible by annual membership fees, donations from members both living and deceased, and the many hours of volunteer work put in by members and friends. See how you can help!

Brochure to Introduce OWN

You can pick one up at the OWN office, or you can read and/or print it right here (pdf). It’s to be printed on two sides of standard letter-size paper, then folded in thirds.

Join Now

Read the mission and objectives of OWN before joining.  Then print out this membership application, fill it in, and mail with your cheque to the OWN office.  If you can add a donation to your membership, please do so, and if you can bring another new member (friend, neighbour, relative) on board, that is a great way for us to grow.  If you have no printer, send in your information to 115 The Esplanade, Toronto, Ont. M5E 1Y7.

The membership form also includes instructions for becoming a preauthorized monthly contributor (PAC). To maintain our small office (run by volunteers) and support the costs of our advocacy work, the target is $26,000, which is higher than last year’s revenue of $21,000, reflecting rising costs and our plans to improve communications. We need, too, to be able to respond to the increase in opportunities in the community to speak up on our priorities: affordable housing, economic security, health services, and long term care. We must be involved in discussions and strategizing with partners and affiliates. So please become a member. We can’t do it without you.

Current members, please renew your membership promptly.

    Hello,
I’m a single woman with no children and will be 47 next month, and find that being middle-aged and single is a VERY TOUGH spot to be in!!!! I don’t know if this group would be of any interest to me, but I’m trying to find that out. Without trying to sound rude, are there many other members who are my age group? I think it’s great that you have this organization, but it seems that it’s for women older than 40 or 50-somethings. Just inquiring. Thank you :)

      Hi, Christine,
Thank you for contacting OWN. I am in the same social situation as yourself and am currently a board member of OWN, and there are other ‘younger’ women involved in the organisation as well!
Like any organisation, it depends on what you find yourself gravitating towards as to whether this could be a good fit for you.
The issues that OWN as an advocacy group I think stands for are issued that are relevant for all women, so I would encourage you to call the office and have a chat with the women there, or if you are interested, please come along to our AGM which is coming up really soon, June 5th, and we can meet in person and chat further.

If you live in Toronto, please be encouraged to call the OWN office on a Thursday from 11am-3pm and speak to an OWN member.

Can I join the Older Women’s Network? What type of neworking is it and how often do you meet, etc? Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, Bev, you can certainly join. We now have our introductory brochure online under Membership, which gives more information about our activities. Also, see the various activities and groups under our Events menu. Eleanor/Webmaster
